- Subject advocated joining forces with the Dakota against the United States during the Dakota War of 1862.

- Original photograph likely taken approximately 1862 to 1863 by Joel E. Whitney. This copy possibly published by Charles A. Zimmerman sometime after Zimmerman purchased Whitney's photograph studio in 1871.
