Context
This house is a fine example of Gothic Revival architecture. S.D. Van Duzer built the house in 1858. He held a number of village posts among them: helped establish the village by-laws in 1866; trustee of the first village board in 1866; president of the board in 1873 and 1892. Van Duzer died in 1908, and the house was sold to Mr. and Mrs. George Cook. Mr. Cook started a livery business; expanded to the Saline Garage; and then opened a Chevrolet dealership. The Cooks added stucco to the house in 1912. Mr. Cook served several terms as president of the village, and also justice of the peace. Mr. Cook died in 1936, and Mrs. Cook remained in the house until 1958. The house was then owned by Florence Bracey (the Cook's daughter), until it was sold to Michael Forner in 1983. This house is listed on the National Register.
