Abraham Lincoln looks uncomfortable while straddling a rail labeled "Republican Platform" that is being carried by Horace Greeley and an African American man. Greeley remarks that they "can prove that you have split rails & that will ensure your election to the Presidency."
"Entered according to Act of Congress in the Year 1860, by Currier & Ives in the Clerk's Office of the District Court for the southern Distt. of N.Y."
