- Derogatory depiction of an African American woman purchasing a bonnet in the company of her well-dressed African American male friend, "Frederick Augustus." The woman is in profile standing in front of a mirror trying on a yellow bonnet so large that her face is obscured. She asks "Frederick Augustus" what he thinks. He stands behind her with his arms crossed and responds that he does not like the style because it hides her "lubly" face. A white shopkeeper behind the counter looks on, and a muzzled dog near the counter faces away from the couple.
