The pamphlet is in answer to Jacques Bénigne Bossuet's An exposition of the doctrine of the Catholic Church in matters of controversie. His vindicator is Joseph Johnston who wrote A vindication of the Bishop of Condom's exposition of the doctrine of the Catholic Church.
